Odds and ends

Sep 25, 2005 in griffon

Charise is doing a lot better, though the pain really gets to her some times when she tries to tuff it out without to many meds (they still can make her stomach pretty upset). They are also going to start pushing her harder in physical therapy first day of that pretty much made her a wreck friday night. Sort of sucked a bit of the fun out of the old date night, but I thought that was going to happen so we just took it easy.

Speaking of which, kaily had her first over night away from home up in SF with Nana. Everything seemed to go well. It was a bit unnerving though I kept tip toeing and turning the volume down on things at night, subconsciously worried I would wake her up.

In the nobody cares but me department I Finlay, almost accidentally, managed to fix a nasty little problem with java that was making my desktop act very wonky and not letting me run any java applets reliable. Weird one, ruining a complete vid driver removal then installing the ATI cat 5.9 drivers fixed it, though the events should have been totally unrelated. Whoop for me anyway!

Busy weekend

Sep 20, 2005 in General Family, griffon

It was a busy weekend and we where only able to do about half of what we wanted to. I did a demo at the chinese moon festival, it was “ok”, parking was a mess. I’ll post some pictures if I can find anyone who took some. Then we we had a birthday party BBQ to go to which was a lot a of fun but exhausting. Charise is still far from 100% but is generally doing better overall, definitely on the mend! Sadly we couldn’t get over to the east bay for Derek and Milda’s baby shower, we have liked to but it was to much and to short of notice (one week). I’m off to buy a chain saw, don’t ask.

Quick update

Sep 16, 2005 in General Family

Charise has been having a fair amount of trouble eating or keeping her meds down. Her it seems like her throat and stomach got fairly irritated. She went to urgent care the other night for some supplemental stomach stuff but so far nothing has helped much. Today she is doing a titch better though so I’m hopeful that she is over the hump.

yah!

finaly headed home. we are all checked out and picking up some lunch. Charise is doing well but the arm is still splinted, that might change tomorrow.

Home again

Sep 12, 2005 in General Family

Came home to Crista crashed out on the couch. Snoring loud enough to vibrate a cupboard in the kitchen… Don’t know what kind of cold meds she takes but it took me a solid minute to waker her up, then she crashed out again almost instantly, ah well she earned it.

Anyway Charise got drugged up, ate a little bit of her dinner, did a lap around the ward with her IV, and sacked out hard. After a couple hours of watching her saw Wood I decided to sneak home. I was hoping to catch the tail in of Kaily’s bed time but no dice.
Charise was doing good tonight, I think the projected check out for monday morning looks promising, but everything usually seems to unwind right after I leave so there is no guarantee. The nurse made some noise about checking her out tonight if she wanted but that was no sale (she was just Reading the script she was told to, clearly she thought charise should stay too).

Sep 12, 2005 in General Family

well we thought today was it but charise is still having trouble keeping things down so they are going to keep her over sunday night too. Heh so much for this being a quick one day out patient kind of thing.
Christa ended up crashing there on floor last night, but finaly xouldn’t take anymore and came home to crash (1:30pm). Kaily is finaly out too (been up since dawn).
I’ll probable head back over to the hospital when the nappers wake up..

Probable one more night

Sep 11, 2005 in Charise, onthego

Bloging from the hospital again. Charise is doing a bit better today with some new drugs… She had a real tuff night last night.
A Doc will come by this afternoon to check on her but it sounds like they will keep her one more night.

admited

Sep 10, 2005 in Charise

ok so charise is in a lot of pain. looks like they are going to admit her for the night to keep it managed.
I saw the post op exray, they put two bolts into her elbow and pulled it staight forcing it to unlock

FYI if any of these posts look or read odd it’s because I’m posting them from my cel.

UPDATE: I got home about 11 after charise sacked out jacked up on all kinds of drugs and still complaining about it hurting. We should know more in the morning. I would have crashed in the room with her but they didn’t have any fold out chairs (zero accommodations really).

I just met with the recovery nurse

Sep 10, 2005 in onthego

I just met with the charge nurse she says another hour or so. Hopfully be out of here by 9:30 or so. So far I’m a bit put out with this hospital. Everyone has been profesional but they have some staffing issues. They actualy locked the east entrance, but nothing inside tells you that. I stuck some papers in the car then had to drive around the whole building. It also took me twenty minutes to find a volunteer (not even a staffer) to check on Charis’s status when she was running two hours late. They have no one staffing the surgery wating area after 4pm. Also it’s kind of dumpy, with lots of little repoirs needed everywhere.

Out of surgery

Sep 10, 2005 in Charise

Out of surgery, two hours later then expected.

Charise is out of the OR but still in recovery. The Doc said everthing whent well but working the joint hard will be the keyto getting mobility back into the arm.

Charise went in at 4:30.

Sep 10, 2005 in onthego

Charise went in at 4:30. She should have been done aboute half an hour agoe but still no word. I’m getting ansy but it’s probable just normal hospital lag.

RSS2

Sep 09, 2005 in Site

Ok, one of the reasons we switched to a new site format is better support things like RSS2.
Why do you care? Because you can feed the RSS2 link there on the right to any service like at my.yahoo.com or google side bar and get automatic updates when this site has new posts/pictures. That way you don’t have to remember to come and check directly.
No idea what I’m talking about, check out your portal, or do a google for RSS readers. There are many ways to get the content, you can even have updates go to your cel phone or whatever (that you would want that for this site in particular of course). Anyway have fun, it’s cool web technology and the new wave of syndication.

Bumps in the road

Sep 09, 2005 in Charise

Well the moved Charise surgery all around, but it’s still going to be on friday. They are making her have it done at a less desirable hospital and at a less desirable time. Apparently this is just workmen’s comp being arbitrary, or not wanting to pay for it at the Doctors preferred location. Pretty screwed up but I guess not critical. They also said that they probable didn’t have to pay for the expanded daycare that Kaily will need, cheap bastards, no wonder everyone seems to sue them eventually. The madding thing is that we can’t just go and use are own better insurance, if we do then we loose the pay for Charise being off work, how dumb is that, we save them money and then penalize us. I guess this is all symptoms of a system that is rife with fraud, but not being in the con-man bucket I’m starting to feel a little kicked around.

Yep she broke it

Sep 07, 2005 in Charise

So, we finlay got charise in to see the specialist today (t- two weeks after the acident). She has a huge fracture in her upper arm. Complete with bone fragments and a allmsot total loss of all the mobility in her elbow due to some sort of joint pod lock.

She goes in for surgery on friday where they will be putting a pin in her arm and setting the bone since it has lost alignment. As well as cleaning up the fragments and what not.

They have singed her out for the next four weeks from work, for now, and might extend it depending on on how the intensive physical therapy on her arm goes on restoring flexibility to her elbow.

Needless to say she is not a happy camper.

Meanwhile the whole family has some sort of awful cold/flue thing, just because things where not fun enough. It’s been a fun week. Charise’s mom will be staying through next weekend to help out though, given the surgery and all, probable a good thing.
